It’s in the small, everyday moments that the biggest things happen which is why I try to make sure we have dinner together as a family at least three times a week. (Only three because we have insane schedules.) But we are all home for breakfast so it means a ton to me to eat that meal together, too – even when it’s difficult, on the run or occasionally when it’s for dinner. One recipe we all love is overnight oats.
Overnight oats is one of my go-to breakfast recipes because it’s so simple, nutritious and delicious. My family goes through about 2 gallons of milk a week which is fine by me because I know we are getting nutrients our bodies need in each 8-ounce serving. Milk contains nutrition that’s hard to find in other foods and beverages, too!
Did you know that milk is the top food source of three of the nutrients most likely to be lacking in kids’ diets: calcium, vitamin D and potassium? It’s true!
Overnight Oats Recipe –
Ingredients:
- 1 cup quick cooking oats
- 1 tsp. chia seeds
- 1 tsp. vanilla cinnamon sugar
- 1 cup milk (I like whole milk.)
- Optional: chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, etc.
Directions:
- Pour oats, chia seeds, vanilla cinnamon sugar and milk in a mason jar.
- Stir everything together so there’s even distribution of the ingredients.
- Refrigerate overnight.
- Optional: Top with chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, etc., as desired.
- Stir, serve and enjoy!
Overnight oats can be customized as desired! You can add more or less oats (if you add more, increase the amount of milk), swap the chia seeds for flax seeds, add more or less vanilla cinnamon sugar or even add something like peanut butter to the mixture.

How do u make vanilla cinnamon sugar?
Sara Phillips says
I buy mine (it’s Adam’s Brand) but you could add cinnamon/sugar and vanilla separately.

I too have never heard of vanilla cinnamon sugar; sounds great! Since I was a child I’ve always used an old Seasoning Salt jar (now a plastic bottle) to mix cinnamon and sugar together so as to sprinkle it on my toast; I do the same for my Oatmeal.
I’m definitely going to try to add vanilla to my mixture. Thank you for the tip!
Regarding Milk; I once lost a ton of weight (165 to 120) just because I could. Of course my Doctors were upset. Then I had a craving for Milk, for some unknown reason. I started drinking Whole Milk and my weight increased dramatically. I now stick to 2% Milk. Can’t drink anything less.
Thanks again!

Quick cooking rolled osts? I’ve only ever seen overnight oats made with the steel-cut variety
Sara Phillips says
Yep! SUPER easy. I’m not a fan of the steel-cut variety but you could use them interchangeably.

How many servings per jar?
Sara Phillips says
I use it as two servings per jar.
