As much as I enjoy chicken, I can only eat it a few nights a week without getting tired of it. Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage is a great alternative. Sausage & Tortellini in a Creamy Red Sauce makes for an easy and quick weeknight meal.
One Pot Meal: Sausage and Tortellini in a Creamy Red Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 pkg Hillshire Smoked Sausage
- 1/2 tsp garlic minced
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 19 oz. pkg frozen tortellini
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- 1 can peas optional
Instructions
-
Slice sausage into bite-sized pieces.
-
In a large skillet, brown the sausage with the garlic for about 10 minutes.
-
Add vegetable broth, tomato sauce, heavy whipping cream, tortellini, salt and pepper.
-
Simmer 10-15 minutes, or until the tortellini is cooked completely.
-
Serve and ENJOY!
I don’t have a large skillet, so I used two dishes. If you have a large skillet, this could very easily be a one pot meal!
If you let the dish sit for about 10 minutes after it’s cooked, the sauce will thicken up nicely!
My husband and I really enjoyed our Sausage & Tortellini in a creamy red sauce! Hillshire Smoked Sausage adds a depth of flavor that you don’t get with other meat options. My kids said they didn’t love the sauce, but they ate it.
I love the convenience of one-pot meals, it makes me not dread the clean-up as much if there’s only one! This looks really tasty – my husband and daughter are both big fans of tortellini and sausage, I might have to make it for them!
Heck yes, I would! That looks positively delicious and so easy to make. But best of all, the flavor sounds incredible.
I love one pot meals. They make it so quick for clean-up. This one has all of my family’s favs together in one pot.
My husband would go crazy over this meal and I would love that there is only one pot to clean at the end of it! I’m adding it to my recipe box.
Was looking for a dinner Idea.. I think I have all the ingredients in my pantry/fridge. Thanks for the idea.
You know….I’m not much of a pea lover (stems for childhood) but I think I could deal with them if I had a yummy sauce to go with them.
You could change the peas out for whatever you’d like – no need to deal with them!
We love their sausage and usually make jambalya out of it. This looks delicious though. Thanks for the recipe.
This recipe sounds so good!! I haven’t had tortellini in ages!
We had kielbasa last night – with potatoes. But I love this idea. I’m going to try it soon!
Yum! I actually wouldn’t have thought to add the peas. But I can see how they’d balance the richness of the other ingredients.
This looks delicious and One pot meals are the best on long work days. I will have to pin this to make at a later time.
I love easy weeknight meals, too, and this would definitely fit the bill. I may have to leave out the peas for my kids, they have no idea what they’re missing, but other than that.
I haven’t had that combination before but will give it a try. The addition of peas might make it add for the kids but I will swap it for something else.
I love using Hilshire Farms sausage in recipes. and since my husband is the dishwasher, he loves one pot meals. This would be a great supper at my house.
I love one-pot meals, and this looks like one my whole family would love! I actually think I have most of the ingredients on hand already, going to be adding this to the meal plan this week. Thanks!
I LOVE one pot meals, makes preparing meals so easy. Your recipe sounds delicious!
