Lately I’ve been feeling as if I don’t have anymore ‘good’ ideas for this co-hosted Kids in the Kitchen series. I was chatting with Paula (from Frosted Fingers) about how I was feeling and she linked me to her Squid Dogs post. I thought it was BRILLIANT!! So I purchased everything we’d need to make them this week and Wednesday evening, the kids got to work!
Break dry spaghetti noodles in half. Then stick 5-6 noodles through the 1″ hot dog pieces. Throw them in a pot of boiling water until the noodles are cooked. Drain & serve.
I served their Squid Dogs with mustard & ketchup. James seemed to enjoy them, but Colin was NOT a fan. My husband must have thought they were decent because he ate as many as he could! They all agreed the Squid Dogs needed cheese or a cheese sauce to make them a little better. {I don’t eat hot dogs, so I didn’t even try them.}
Squid Dogs are very easy to make.
Have you made squid dogs … or would you?
Did you have fun in the “kitchen” this week? Did you try a new food or a new kid friendly restaurant? Did your little ones use their snacks to count to 10? We invite you to share your experiences, photos, stories or recipes that include your #kidsinthekitchen!
Come join me and my co-hosts, Melinda at Look What Mom Found, Paula at Frosted Fingers, Lisa of HooplaPaloooza and Sarah of Play2LearnWithSarah, each week by linking up a post, new or old, that features the theme Kids in the Kitchen. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together, enjoying it and learning something along the way.
- preparing healthy snacks
- having a tea party
- counting skills with m&ms
- pouring from measuring cups
- discovering a local restaurant that your kids love
- creating new family friendly recipes
Don’t have a blog? That’s ok! Just share an Instagram photo or Facebook update.
I have seen these and thought they were cute but not sure if my kids would actually eat it….but I know they’d have fun MAKING it
I would so make these! Cute. I bookmarking this so I will remember to make it!
My girls would love making these..but I wonder if they would eat them.
Looks like the boys had fun making them.
Those are too cute!!! My girls don’t really do plain pasta so add cheese to it!
These are FUNNY. I just found spaghetti shaped gluten-free pasta that actually has a great texture so we are going to try this! I think making it will be half the fun.
I think making them is more than half the fun! 😉
Those look fun to make! My 5 year old would eat them but my 6 year old would turn his nose up.
I absolutely love this! The kids will have a blast making it.
wahahahaha this is so funny! I must must try it! the kids would so love this!!
oh fun! I’m sure the kids had a blast.
You know, when I was a kid I ate squid so I wasn’t sure what I would find in this post 🙂 Very cute idea!
These are so darling!! My son would have a blast making these — now if only I could get him to eat more…
These look super cool. Going to try these with my kids for lunch tomorrow and use cheese. Will let you know how it turned out. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
My girls would have a blast playing with these!
I’ve never made these but i’ve seen them several times on different blogs . Maybe we should do this, this weekend. Our boys would enjoy it!
I’ve never heard of squid dogs before, but I bet my kids would have a blast making them. Don’t know if they’ll eat them though because they’re picky eaters.
What a fun lunch to make and eat together as a family!
Oooh – I have wanted to try these with my boys. They would have so much fun putting them together. Plus, what a fun science lesson (or magic trick if you don’t want to explain the chemistry)… the pasta goes in straight and comes out “squiggly” – how in the world does that happen? 😉
What a fun idea, I am going to let the kids do this tonight.
My son would LOVE this!! What a great idea!
Make octopus dogs or sausages! H loved them this summer!! 😉
We put butter and parmesan cheese on them and it was really good. I haven’t made them in a long time.
I really like Squid Dogs and that is an awesome idea to make with my niece when she comes over and I babysit. It is such a cute way to eat these hot dogs!
I’ve never thought of this before but what a cute idea/recipe! My grandson would love to make this because he loves spaghetti and hot dogs!
