My family likes sandwiches but we don’t eat them very often. Several months ago, I bought the ingredients I needed to make an easy at-home sub sandwich – it was a huge hit!!
Kids in the Kitchen: Easy At-Home Sub Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread
- 1/3 pound deli meat I used honey ham
- 1/3 pound deli meat I used mesquite turkey
- 10 slices cheese I used Gouda
- Optional: lettuce olives, tomatoes, mayo, mustard, etc.
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°
-
Using a bread knife, slice the French bread in half and put it on a cookie sheet.
-
Place the sliced cheese on both sides of the bread, slightly over-lapping.
-
Add deli meat - as much or as little as you want - to the bottom section of the bread.
-
Do not close the sandwich!
-
Bake (open faced!) for 8-10 minutes, or until the top cheese is bubbly.
-
Add toppings, and cut to 'fit' each person.
-
ENJOY!
Depending on the age of your kids, one sandwich will feed about 5 people. We usually have one hubs-sized piece leftover for the next day’s lunch.
Colin helped me make last weeks easy at-home sub sandwiches. After I sliced the bread in half, Colin added the cheese and meats.
He is such a great helper!

We love subs in our home and I love how easy these are to put together. I’m not hig on ham but Hubs and the kids would wolf these down in a jiffy. Dinner at your place, soon? 😉

We go through sub phases where that is ALL the kids want to eat and then we cycle out of them. Thanks for the reminder – it’s been a while since we made them so I’ll definitely add them into the rotation soon!
Kim Croisant says
That’s great you got your kids involved in making the sandwich…and it’s huge!!! We like to eat subs too.

We used to always make these sandwiches and they were so good. We would always add marinara sauce to them.
Sara Phillips says
The marinara isn’t weird with the lettuce?
aimee fauci says
No lettuce but banana peppers
Latoicha says

we don’t do subs, I’m not sure why. We call them hoagies too
Sara Phillips says
So is a hoagie the same as a sub?
Michelle says
We love making subs at home. It’s amazing how something so simple can be so good!

This looks good. We like sandwiches too but they must be hot. I think I’ll do this one day next week for lunch with some broccoli and cheese soup to add.
