My husband and I met online. We talked for about a month before I decided he was probably not a psycho and agreed to meet him at a coffee shop. About three months after we met face-to-face, we got married.
We’ve been married for almost 12 years and it’s been a quite the rollercoaster ride. We’ve definitely had more good moments than bad and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
Valentine’s Day is special to me because I married the least romantic guy on the planet. He can handle sweet gestures for one day – but not every day. So we put a little more emphasis on the sentimental holiday. I enjoy making Valentine’s Day baskets for my husband but a few years ago I started a new tradition – a His + Hers Valentine’s Day Basket! On February 13, I set a basket out on the table and on the 14th, we each fill the basket with a few different things.
This year’s gifts are still a secret, so don’t tell! I was at Walmart last week and picked up new sleep pants, three different kinds of candy, K-Y® YOURS+MINE and the stuff to make personalized scratch-offs for my husband’s gifts! I might pick up a movie and throw that in, too.
The K-Y® YOURS+MINE DATE NIGHT box is a $50 value which includes 1 free meal for two people from PEACHDISH.com (delivered to your door) and a $5 VUDU movie credit perfect for a date night in. For more great ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, visit K-Y.com. Check out the Date Night pack at Walmart.com for discreet purchasing.
I want you to be able to give your significant other personalized scratch-offs, too, so here’s what you’ll need:
- Card stock
- Contact paper
- Acrylic paint
- Dish soap
- Paint brush
- Printer/Ink
- Permanent marker or pen
- Scissors
You can use my scratch-off printables:
(I de-select ‘fit to page’ and print 4 on a page)
Or you can use your own.
After you print the cards, cut them out. (Print one extra so you can use the heart as a template later on.)
Cut a large piece of contact paper. Get it to lay flat on a table or hard surface (I used tape on the four corners).
Mix two parts acrylic paint with one part dish soap. I didn’t measure so just use your best guesstimation skills. Paint the mixture over the contact paper, allow to dry. Repeat as needed, but do it at least twice.
Remember that template I said you’d need? Now’s the time! Gently trace the template on the dried paint and cut them out. (Remember, you’ll need three ‘covers’ for each card.)
Peel the back of the contact paper off and tenderly press it over each scratch-off option.
I can’t wait to see my husband’s reaction to his gifts this Valentine’s Day – especially since I went out of my way to make those cute scratch-offs!
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
