According to PR Newswire, as of March 2019, the average American spends 10 hours and 50 minutes a week in their vehicle. That’s a whopping 546 hours per year. And according to Statista, as of March 31, 2019, there were 2.47 million apps available in the Google Play Store and 1.8 million apps available in the Apple Store. With all those hours in your vehicle and all the apps available, it makes sense to have a few smartphone apps handy.

Android Auto or Apple CarPlay – These apps are both free on the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. They are both infotainment systems designed to help you avoid distracted driving. They do this by taking information from your smartphone, like apps, and displays them on the screen on your vehicle’s in-dash navigation system.
Audible – Audible is $14.95 a month, after a 30-day free trial. Whether you’re going to be in your car for 20 minutes or 20 hours, that time doesn’t have to be lost time. Audible is the newest way to “read” your favorite books while in the car. The service offers over 180,000 audiobooks for you to choose from.
Find My Car – Find My Car is free in the Google Play Store. Most of us have likely experienced the frustration of parking our car somewhere and later forgetting where we parked. This app can help you find where you parked your car, by using Google Maps navigation. It snaps photos of your car and automatically saves your parking location.
Gas Buddy – Gas Buddy is free on the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. The app helps you find the closest and the cheapest gas stations that are nearby. With the app, you can search by city, state and zip code, plus the app will show you the 10 closest stations and their prices in real-time.
Parkopedia – Parkopedia is free on the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. While the previously mentioned app, Find My Car, helps you find your parked car, this app actually helps you find a parking space. The app has a database of 70+ million parking car parks, metered parking, parking structures and street parking options, in 89 different countries around the world.
Waze – Waze is free on the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. This crowd-sourced app uses GPS and real-time updating, using comprehensive voice-assisted navigation, to reroute you around construction, road closures and traffic accidents and it also alerts you to things like road hazards and speed traps.
