Children are our most precious cargo. I’m sure you’d do anything you could to keep them safe in case of emergency. There are some things that people don’t think about that could help keep their kids safe.
The first thing you want to do is make sure your child is in the proper car seat and that it is installed correctly. Select a seat based on your child’s height and weight and that fits properly in your vehicle and then make sure you use it every time. Keep your child in car seats as long as possible, as long as the child fits within the manufacturer’s height and weight requirements. You should also try to keep your older child in the back seat until they are at least 12.
Something that people don’t think about is projectiles in the car. Protect children by ensuring there is nothing that can fly through your car in an accident. Always try to have things put in their place and have them organized and secured so they can’t fly.
You should also never let the kids be in the car by themselves. Not only can the child do something in the car to make it roll and possibly cause an accident but someone could break into the car and steal them.
If your child somehow gets locked in the car, be sure to call 911 immediately because they can help get them out of the car.
One other idea you can use to keep your child safe is to keep a large stuffed animal in the child’s car seat when it’s not occupied. When the child is placed in the seat, put the stuffed animal in the front passenger seat. It’s a visual reminder that anytime the stuffed animal is up front you know the child is in the back seat in a child safety seat.
Keep your babies safe! You’ll never forgive yourself if you don’t.
