Can you ever have too many cookies? I don’t think so!
Frosted Fingers posted her failed cookie earlier this week, and I knew I wanted to try to make those super cute cookies! But I wanted to do them with fall colors rather than Halloween colors.
Colin and I bought pre-made cookie dough. I divided it out into four sections. Colin got to add the food coloring – 5 drops of red, 5 of green, 5 yellow and then we made a brown mixture together. I like that he got to practice his counting with the drops. I made them wear disposable gloves, but both boys helped to mix the colors into the dough.
After the dough was completely colored, we broke each color up into little tiny balls. Next we pushed one tiny ball from each color together to make one cookie-sized ball. Then we rolled that ball into a Play-Doh-like snake and then roll the snake into a cookie shape. You could add sprinkles to the edge of the cookie at this point. The boys didn’t want to, so we didn’t.
I put the cookie sheet in the oven. My little bakers watched through the window as they baked.
After I removed the cookies from the oven & they cooled off, James & Colin enjoyed them!
Have you made swirly cookies before?
Did you have fun in the “kitchen” this week? Did you try a new food or a new kid friendly restaurant? Did your little ones use their snacks to count to 10? We invite you to share your experiences, photos, stories or recipes that include your #kidsinthekitchen!
Come join me and my co-hosts, Melinda at Look What Mom Found, Paula at Frosted Fingers, Lisa of HooplaPaloooza and Sarah of Play2LearnWithSarah, each week by linking up a post, new or old, that features the theme Kids in the Kitchen. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together, enjoying it and learning something along the way.
- preparing healthy snacks
- having a tea party
- counting skills with m&ms

Don’t have a blog? That’s ok! Just share an Instagram photo or Facebook update.
So glad yours turned out. I’m going to try again with parchment paper next week!
I agree with you, one can never have too many cookies. No, we’ve never made swirly cookies but would try and give it a shot.
Looks like they had fun making the cookies! I’ll have to try this recipe!
Things always seem to taste better in pretty colors! Looks like your kiddos had a great time baking cookies!
I’m sure at the end of the day it doesn’t making what you’re making with the kiddos. They will always remember these moments.
I love that photo of them peeking at the oven! I can SEE their expectancy!!
Cookies are the best for encouraging assistance from little helpers!
Those look awesome! I love how your kiddos make and enjoy their snacks 🙂
I’m actually making cookies today! Sweetened with nothing but a banana LOL. You can never have too many cookies!
I have never made swirly cookies and I’m going to have to change that stat!
I think they are so cute! Hopefully they were just as delicious!
You can never make to many cookies with the kids. Mine love getting to make and bake them and since the time it takes for them to be ready to eat is so short they get to taste test their hard work.
There will never be too many cookies! My kids love to cook and i need to get them in the kitchen more. We just may try these.
Looks like they had so much fun baking cookies!
I haven’t made these before, but I’m really Frunchy and we don’t use artificial color because it effects my son’s autism. I do, however LOVE to bake and they look super cute.
Can you use berries or something like that for the colors? That might be fun because then you’d have different flavors in the cookie!
I made some for Christmas one time and they weren’t too bad in how they looked. Not perfect by any means, but not horrible either. The taste is what matters, right?!
Have not made swirly cookies yet. Made chocolate chip last night. I think they taste so much better when you bake them your self. Our little guy loves to help make cookies, he likes to add the ingredients after I measure them out.
