I’ve been helping Colin learn his alphabet and numbers for awhile now but with kindergarten just a few months away, we’ve started working a little harder. He has some great educational apps but sometimes they make me feel like I am not doing my ‘mom job’.
A few weeks ago, I was working on my creamy pepper sauce post and Colin asked to help. I knew it was a great opportunity for him to practice counting and adding.
He pulled the cookie sheet out of the cupboard and opened the chicken nuggets. I asked Colin how many nuggets he wanted – six – and he counted them out on the tray. We asked James how many he wanted – 8 – so he counted those out. And then we did daddy’s – 8 – he placed those on the tray. After they were all on the tray, he counted ALL of them (with a little help after number 13).
Colin did a great job helping and learning!
Do you use dinner time to teach math?
Did you have fun in the “kitchen” this week? Did you try a new food or a new kid friendly restaurant? Did your little ones use their snacks to count to 10? We invite you to share your experiences, photos, stories or recipes that include your #kidsinthekitchen!
Come join me and my co-hosts, Melinda at Look What Mom Found, Paula at Frosted Fingers and Sarah of Play2LearnWithSarah, each week by linking up a post, new or old, that features the theme Kids in the Kitchen. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together, enjoying it and learning something along the way.
