Wednesday I needed to make tea for my husband and Colin LOVES to help with that so we went to work! I told him we needed to fill the measuring up ‘to the 2’ and he told me when to turn the water off. Then he pulled the tea bag container out of the pantry, got out the four packets we needed, opened them and put them in the measuring cup.
I asked him to put the measuring cup in the microwave, but he told me he couldn’t since it was glass. (He’s a smart kid!) I moved it over and he hit 2-3-0-start!
This is the point where I take over, but I am so glad I have a helper for at least half of the tea-making process! Here’s my tea recipe!
Do you have a special tea blend you like best?
Did you have fun in the “kitchen” this week? Did you try a new food or a new kid friendly restaurant? Did your little ones use their snacks to count to 10? We invite you to share your experiences, photos, stories or recipes that include your #kidsinthekitchen!
Come join me and my co-hosts, Melinda at Look What Mom Found and Paula at Frosted Fingers, each week by linking up a post, new or old, that features the theme Kids in the Kitchen. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together, enjoying it and learning something along the way.
- preparing healthy snacks
- having a tea party
- counting skills with m&ms
- pouring from measuring cups
- discovering a local restaurant that your kids love

I love this series, Sara. I’m not the cook in our family, but my husband is. Last weekend he taught our eight-year-old to scramble an egg.. She loved it and was so proud to serve it to me. Thankfully, my husband has always tried to include our kids in the kitchen so they won’t end up like their mom who can’t cook! 😉

That’s so great! I haven’t let my kids crack eggs yet, but it’s coming! I am so glad your husband is teaching your kiddos!! (And it helps with a whole host of other things – self-confidence, math skills, etc.)

I need to work on measuring with mine. I’m waiting for a nice warm day and I’ll send them outside with some water and measuring cups!

I love that method! All he really knows so far is 2 cups of water (in that Pyrex container!). I need to work on it some more.

I LOVE tea. Peppermint is my all time favorite but I like to make sun tea with the fruit flavored teas in the summer.
Letting kids help empowers them to have confidence down the road, good for you!

I am not a tea-drinker, but my husband goes through 2 gallons a week. It took a bit for me to get this recipe just right for him but now he & the boys enjoy it!

Sun tea is Rob’s thing. He likes his with oranges and lemons, the way his grandmother made it

I don’t like tea, but make hubby homemade unsweetened iced tea that he swears is the best.

You have such a great little helper! Does he like to cook too, or just make tea?
Sara Phillips says
He cooks (and bakes), too!
