We have breakfast for dinner at least once a week. Sometimes the boys get to pick what I’ll make and other times I decide. This week, the boys won. French Toast. Shocker. (They would eat French Toast every day, if I let them!) This week, though, Colin asked to help!
Colin got out the bread (as much as I’d love to use homemade, I had store-bought) and mixed the cinnamon into the batter. James thinks there is a secret ingredient in my French Toast! 😀
Sara’s French Toast:
- 8-9 eggs
- heavy whipping cream (I eyeball this, but it’s probably 3 TBSP)
- 3 shakes of nutmeg
- cinnamon (I eyeball this, too. I shake until it “looks good.”)
- 10-12 slices of bread
- Heat your skillet on (a little less than) medium heat. When you can feel the heat radiating from the top, spray your skillet with olive oil, batter your bread and drop it on. Flip it when you think it’s done on the first side.
- When you pull the French Toast from the skillet, butter it and top with whatever you’d like. (We usually use syrup, but I was out, so we used powdered sugar.) I serve our fruit on the side – but it’s completely up to you!

I would eat french toast everyday too. I bought 2 loaves of french bread for Sunday breakfast for Shaun’s Birthday, French Toast 🙂
Sara Phillips says
YUM! Do you have any secret ingredients?
Melinda@LookWhatMomFound...andDadtoo says
I always add vanilla to the egg mixture and sometimes honey. I always use butter too. MediumLow heat and let it cook through and get crisp. It’s like a special treat in this house because it takes sooooo long to make LOL
Sara Phillips says
OH, vanilla! I always forget that! It’s our go-to for busy nights because I can have it served in less than 15 minutes.

We LOVE breakfast for dinner here! My husband saw it as a make-or-break deal when we were dating :). My secret ingredient for French toast is Maple Sugar. We get it at Trader Joe’s and se it instead of white sugar with the cinnamon. It is YUMMY, and you don’t even need syrup, so leftovers go great in school lunch!

I love breakfast for dinner but my husband isn’t a fan. I don’t really like cinnamon on my french toast, weird, right?
