Create a Fence Garden and Personalize it with the Cricut Joy

As much as I’d like to spend hours upon hours outside in my yard, I just can’t. I get up early to water my sun-loving plants and head back into my air conditioned house. It’s a kazillion degrees most of the year, the humidity is off the charts and mosquitoes come out in droves to slurp blood from my skin. Welcome to Texas! Earlier this summer, though, I had the idea to create a Fence Garden because I can see part of the fence from the dining room windows. This way I’d be able to enjoy bright flowers without having to go outside. Double win, I think!

Create a Fence Garden

Supplies:

• Small Plastic Tubs
• Wood Screws
• Electric Drill
• Potting Soil
• Flowers
• Cricut Joy
• Smart Vinyl, your choice of color(s)

Directions:

1. Using the Cricut Joy, cut the word/design you want for each tub.
   
2. Apply the vinyl to each tub.
   
3. If the tubs don’t have drain holes, use the electric drill to put about 5 holes, evenly spaced, in the bottom.
4. Fill each tub with potting soil.
   
5. Plant the flowers of your choosing.
6. Screw the tub to your fence (either in the 2×4 or 4×4). Make sure the screws are fairly evenly spaced.
   
7. Water your plants and watch them grow!

The Cricut Joy is Cricut’s smallest smart cutting machine and it allows for quick and easy personalization of your garden space with one cut and one color, in 15 minutes or less. For the Fence Garden, I used black smart vinyl so I didn’t need to mess with a mat and I knew the black would really stand out against the pink and gray tubs. Additionally, with Design Space on my phone and computer, projects are created in just minutes. The hardest part for this project was deciding on a font! You can take your Cricut Joy anywhere because setup is instant which makes everyday projects like this easier than ever.

I adore my Fence Garden and I’m already considering adding several more planters with heat-resistant flowers! Having the planters on the fence frees up the yard space for more entertaining space for the two weeks of enjoyable weather we get.
