Why Should I Choose Texas MedClinic Over Other Places? It’s a great question! And there are plenty of reasons but my #1 reason is that they save me time and money. Texas MedClinic is prepared to help with urgent care needs – big or small – and they are my family’s top choice for little urgencies.
**Full Disclosure: I was invited to a media preview of the newest Texas MedClinic and was compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.
Why Should I Choose Texas MedClinic?
Save Time –
- Texas MedClinic generally has shorter wait times than free standing or hospital emergency rooms.
- Check in online (or with the app) and wait at home until about 20 minutes before you scheduled appointment.
- There are currently 19 locations to choose from.
Save Money –
- Texas MedClinic accepts most major insurance providers – check the list – but does not accept TriCare or Medicare.
- Copays or deductibles must be paid at the time of service.
- They don’t charge you a facility fee.
- Free standing emergency rooms will cost you, on average, 10 – 15 times more than an urgent care facility like Texas MedClinic.
“The average minor injury cost at the ER is $1,200 and usually $200 or less at an urgent care center,” Barberic said. “The average co-pay can be $75 to $100 at the ER and is generally $20 to $50 at an urgent care facility. Each visit will save, on average, over $1,000 in healthcare costs.”
Range of Provided Services –
Texas MedClinic provides urgent care, occupational medicine and travel medicine services. They are not providers of longitudinal care for chronic medical problems, such as diabetes, hypertension or hyperlipidemia.
What You Might Not Know –
- The top 10 diagnoses are the same at an urgent care and a free standing emergency room.
- Texas MedClinic is fairly conservative in their approaches because they believe that “More care doesn’t equal better care!”
- Studies show that antibiotics are prescribed unnecessarily 20 – 50% of the time – mostly in children.
- 25% of the providers at Texas MedClinic are Physician’s Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.
- BlueCrossBlueShield is going to start retroactively review files for emergency room care which could end up costing you more.
