I love little storage compartments in my car. I like having little cubbies and places to hold things. I’m lucky that, in my van, I have two glove compartments. I need to clean them out, though. It’s time to get down to the essentials in my boxes instead of the mess that they are right now.
Here are items to keep in a small envelope marked as “In Case of Emergency”:
- Medical Information
- You should have all the critical medical information needed for all your family members in case you are in an accident and can’t communicate.
- Proof of Insurance
- You should always have proof of insurance in case you are in an accident. You don’t want it to look like you don’t have insurance!
- Proof of Registration
- Police always ask for registration, insurance, and driver’s license if you get pulled over.
- Emergency Contact Information
- Again, if you’re in an accident and can’t communicate, the authorities need some way to contact those that are important to you.
Here are some other items that are helpful and handy to keep in your glove box:
- Owner’s Manual
- You don’t want to end up somewhere with a warning light that you don’t know what it means. Having the owner’s manual on hand will help you troubleshoot what’s wrong with your car.
- Flashlight
- You don’t want to get stuck in the dark! If your battery goes out along with the battery on your cell phone, you’ll want some kind of light on hand. You also sometimes need to look under seats for stuff and having a flashlight is a great help!
- Snacks
- You should keep some dry snacks in your glove box in case you get stuck somewhere and need food or if you have little ones that constantly whine that they are hungry.
- Plastic Grocery Bags
- We all end up with some kind of garbage in the car. Having plastic grocery bags on hand gives you a place to put that garbage so it’s not everywhere.
- Wipes and Napkins or Tissues
- Little hands mean sticky messes or sometimes you spill gas on your hands and need to clean them off on the go. Plus you need napkins or tissues for your nose in the winter or when you’re sick.
- Gum or Toothbrush
- Ever leave the house in a hurry and somehow forget to brush? Having a travel toothbrush or gum will help keep your breath fresh so that you aren’t in an embarrassing situation.
I’m sure there are a few more things that you could think of to keep in your glove box, but these are just a few good ideas to make sure you have on hand.
