That’s right! We don’t have to spend money on diapers anymore! And I couldn’t be more thrilled!! (I’ve never averaged it, but my guess is at least $40 a month, right?)
Colin started potty training pretty well at 2 1/2, but then life got busy and we put it on the back burner. When he turned 3 I was DETERMINED to get him out of diapers, but he knew he was in charge of the situation and flat-out refused. So the week before last we ran out of diapers, I told Colin that it was time – he could only pee and/or poop in the toilet! He said “DEAL!” and we have been diaper free (YES, even at bed time) for a week now!!
My Advice:
- Don’t get lazy – and once you start, don’t look back!
- Don’t force your kid – they’ll do it when they are ready.
- Let your kiddo pick out undies so that you are ready when they are.
- Try the “we are out of diapers” trick – who knows, it might work! 😉
- Bribery works! I had this Power Rangers Megazord in my toy “stash” and one day Colin saw it. I told him that if he would go 2 days with NO DIAPERS, he could have it. We put it on a shelf in the living room. And, at the end of the first day, he said, “I can have the Megazord tomorrow!”
Both of my boys were 3 1/2 when they were fully potty trained. James’ circumstance was so much different but as soon as we could, we started his potty training and it was just as quick.
