**Full Disclosure: I received a copy of Thor: Ragnarok for review purposes. This post contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own.
When Colin found out the theatrical release date for Thor: Ragnarok was close to his birthday, he simply asked to take a friend or two to see it. He didn’t ask for a big party or lots of gifts. Movie tickets aren’t cheap, though, so we still spent what we would have for a ‘regular’ party but he was happy which made me happy! Starting today, Thor: Ragnarok is available for purchase on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™, DVD and On-Demand.
About Thor: Ragnarok –
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
I was pleasantly surprised with Thor: Ragnarok – it was quite funny with plenty of snark and still action-packed.
What You Need to Know –
Positive Elements:
- Thor: Ragnarok incorporates lessons on courage and self-sacrifice:
- “I choose to run toward my problems and not away, because that’s what heroes do.” — Thor
- Thor and Loki share a message about brotherhood and family.
- Thor’s home planet serves as a practical example:
- “Asgard is not a place. It is a people.”
Content Caution:
- Language – There are several cuss words in the movie.
- Violence – Of course – this is a Marvel movie! Some of the scenes can be intense and scary for young children.
- Sex – There are some brief sexual references but they’ll likely fly right over younger kids’ heads.
- NOTE: If you have children who are scared easily, some of the scenes can be intense and loud might be a bit much for them.
Things to be Aware of:
- There is a portal called the Devil’s Anus.
- In one scene you’ll see Hulk’s backside and in another, you’ll see Thor without a shirt.
- The main villain is a woman!
- Thor: Ragnarok is a must-see before you go watch the next Marvel movie – Infinity War!
Ultimately, you know your child best. If you think, your child(ren) can handle the film, let them watch it! Both my 9 and 13 year old children have seen it and did fine. As a family, we all thoroughly enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok and have recommended it over and over again!
