There was this girl I went to school with. She was also in my Girl Scout troop. We didn’t hang out too much as we had a different circle of friends. Laura Canahuati and her husband, Mike, recently got some devastating news. Their 5 month old daughter, Avery, has been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). You can read about Avery and her bucket list here.
What is SMA:
SMA is currently an incurable disease caused be a genetic defect and it attacks the muscles which causes inefficiency of the major bodily organs – especially of the respiratory system – and eventually leads to death. 1 in 40 people are carriers of the SMA gene.
I wish I had huge connections and could make some of the big things on Avery’s bucket list happen, but I don’t (or I don’t think I do, do I?).
I wish I could make the SMA disappear. But I can’t. So instead, I will share (share, share, SHARE!) to make SMA known.
In my opinion, the Canahuati’s are handling this heart-breaking news with grace, bravery and a light-hearted spirit.
How can you help? Share Avery’s Bucket List and SMA with people you know!!
Please help the Canahuati family spread the word about SMA.
