My mom, sister and friends are my biggest cheerleaders and I wouldn’t want it any other way! As hard as my husband tries to be a cheerleader, he just isn’t very good at it. I know he loves me and wants what’s best for me, though, so I overlook his lack of supportive words.
Sometimes I don’t WANT to get up and MOVE … but I know I have to. And I won’t say no if someone asks me to go for a walk. (Thanks, Emily!)

I think putting the photo (above) on my fridge might just give me the extra support I need when no one is around.
I love all the support I get from my friends & family, and I know that I need to return it – but how?!
How should I support others in their journey to a healthier life?
- Be a shoulder to lean on. We all have bad days, but if we have a shoulder to lean on, we can make it through and come out stronger. And, if they falter, don’t judge.
- Be aware. If you are going out with a friend, suggest a restaurant with healthier food choices and drink water. If you both want dessert, split it!
- Be active. Rather than going out to lunch (with the friend trying to live healthier), go for a walk (or run). You’ll get to chat just as much as you would have over food and it’ll be better for you both!
- Be supportive. Cheer them on! Post on their Facebook wall, send a text, tweet them – do what you can to tell them “I am here for you!” It doesn’t have to be about their food choices or how they are exercising. Ask about their family or job.
- DON’T: be the food police, tempt them, say things you wouldn’t want to hear or be judgmental.
Do you have any other tips on how to be supportive?
I can feel a difference in the way my clothes fit. My pants are falling off and my shirts are hanging so low you can see straight down them. It’s a good problem to have, but I need clothes that fit!
I am about SO CLOSE to being under 200 pounds! I know I still have a ways to go, but it’s exciting to reach a milestone!

Thank you! (I did buy 3 new tops and a pair of jeans before BlogHer … they are already too big!) It was great to meet you!

You’re doing great – losing slowly and steadily is the way to help ensure you’ll keep it off!

Thank you! Over the first few months, I felt like I wasn’t doing it correctly. But you are right – hopefully it stays off since I am doing it slow & steady!
