**Full Disclosure: This post is just me sharing my experience. I was not forced to get a wax. In fact, I paid good money for the service. Additionally, this post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase, I get a teeny-tiny percentage at no cost to you. As always, all opinions are my own.
I typically think about an idea for quite awhile before talking to family and friends about whatever it is and then mull over the idea a little longer before I decide to leap. However, on a whim a few months ago, I decided it would be a great idea to get a Brazilian wax.
When I arrived at the studio, I was incredibly anxious and talkative. With nothing but socks on below my waist, I laid on a table and covered with a towel. The esthetician walked into the room and got to work. In under an hour, my private parts were completely bare.
4 Sensible Tips for Getting a Brazilian Wax:
- Make the Perfect Appointment. You should not go in for a wax during your period. It’s best to go in at least a week before or a week after. Otherwise, your skin can be a little more sensitive.
- Prepare Yourself.
- You’ll be completely exposed. You should think about that before making the appointment, probably!
- All hair should be about 1/4 an inch long. It doesn’t have to be perfect but it’s better to be too long than too short as the wax needs something to hold on to.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothes so your skin can breathe before and after.
- No Judgement Zone. Your waxer isn’t going to judge you. It’s her job to be professional and, honestly, she looks at other people all the time.
- Relax! Your esthetician will need to move your legs around in order remove all the hair. It’ll be awkward but totally worth it! And, have something to talk about. Mindless chatter will help keep your mind off the waxing. My esthetician told me a few of her clients’ horror stories while she worked and it made me feel better about the experience.
- What’s Next?
- Don’t use a loofa for the first 3 – 4 days after a wax.
- In my experience, about a week and a half to two weeks after the initial wax, the hairs start to grow back in and they itch nothing I’ve ever encountered before. Have some Calendula cream on hand to help calm the skin.
- Schedule your next wax for 6 – 8 weeks later.
Surprisingly, the most awkward part of the wax hurts the least. The experience wasn’t (and isn’t) as awful as I had imagined. I have been back 3 times since writing this post and I don’t foresee putting an end to it. That said, only you can decide if a Brazilian wax is for you.
