**Full Disclosure: As a PROUD Sea World 2014 Wildside Blogger, my family and I were provided with season passes. I was not asked to write about my experience. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Roa’s Aviary, located at Sea World San Antonio’s Aquatica, opened Memorial Day weekend. I had the opportunity to check out the space before the masses of people and I can tell you it’s so relaxing! Roa’s Aviary is 13,500 square feet and currently houses about 100 exotic birds. Eventually it’ll feature close to 300 birds!
With three entrance points Roa’s Aviary is easily accessed. You can walk, wade or float into the bird-filled space. If you walk in, make sure you completely close one door before you open the next. This double-door system will keep the birds in the enclosure.
As you enter the aviary, make sure you grab a waterproof bird guide so that you’ll be able to identify each bird. For now, you can feed the birds (at no cost) when food is available. Eventually there will be a fee for feeding them. The birds are still getting accustomed to their new home, so don’t expect them to eat from your hand. Some of the birds are considered threatened or endangered and Roa’s Aviary will help with conservation efforts.
Some of the birds I saw were very shy, sticking to the back of the enclosure. Others were very happy with their new home and came right up to me.
I can’t wait to take my family back to Roa’s Aviary. I really want to spend next weekend floating down Loggerhead Lane and looking at the birds!
Something to remember – you can only visit Roa’s Aviary if you have access to Aquatica. The aviary will be accessible with just a Sea World pass during Aquatica’s off-season.
Is Roa’s Aviary something you would enjoy?
