This story is really not very funny, but it’s definitely my most memorable road trip experience.
School was out for Thanksgiving break. Mom packed my sister (Becca) & I in the car, we headed to Austin to pick up my aunt and then we hit the road to my grandparent’s house. I was no older than 10 and I remember it being SO COLD outside. Mom had the heater on in the car, but Becca and I were snuggled in sweaters and under a blanket. It was drizzly, but the forecast hadn’t called for sleet or snow – it IS Texas, after all. About an hour north of Austin we hit a patch of ice on the high way, the car spun around in donuts and we stopped in the grass on the side of the road. It was the scariest few minutes of my life! LUCKILY, we didn’t hit any one and all the other cars avoided ours. {Let me say, though, that we weren’t the only car spinning in circles on the highway. There were donut-ing cars all over the place.} After Mom & my aunt made sure Becca and I were fine – VERY shaken and crying – but fine, we got back on the road and drove to the nearest rest area. The rest of that road trip was incredibly slow-going, but we finally made it to my grandparent’s house and had a great time!
What’s your most memorable road trip?

Wow that sounds like a scary situation !! I had the same thing happen in my truck up north while I was pregnant with my daughter. I’ve learn to go very SLOW in the rain and snow!

We couldn’t have been going more than 30 MPH. It is super scary!

Wow! What an unpleasant experience! I remember being about the same age when my mom hit a deer on the interstate. I was asleep in the back seat and it was very frightening.
Sara Phillips says
I can imagine your experience was equally unpleasant!!

Yikes that is scary! I remember doing something similar like that with my father driving. We were okay though. 🙂
