**Full Disclosure: I was invited to a media preview at Pollo Tropical. I was not asked to write about my experience. All opinions are mine.
My husband would tell you that I don’t like to try new things. For the most part, he would be right. However, I have been trying to get better and push myself to experience things out of my comfort zone. When I was asked to attend the media preview at San Antonio’s newest restaurant, Pollo Tropical, I was intrigued and said yes!
When I walked into the restaurant, immediately I noticed how bright the atmosphere was. As I started looking at the menu, I was really impressed by the price points. Everything is reasonably priced with the most expensive thing being the Family Meal.
At the media preview, employees brought out a little of everything from the menu. It was a ton of food! The Caribbean-inspired dishes you’ll find at Pollo Tropical are definitely not Tex-Mex but the food is phenomenal! Everything Pollo Tropical serves is made in-house from real ingredients. My favorite is the TropiChop® with Calypso Beef and Yellow Rice. I got to sample the Refrescas as well. I tried the Tropical Breeze and the Superfruit Punch – both were refreshing and light.
About Pollo Tropical:

The Miami-based company, founded in 1988, currently owns and operates 117 locations in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Texas. There are also five licensed restaurants located on college campuses and 33 franchised locations throughout the Caribbean, Central America, South America and Puerto Rico.
Fun Facts:
- Pollo Tropical serves more than 37.5 million meals annually.
- They cook and serve more than 1.7 million pounds of yuca each year.
- Pollo Tropical set a Guinness World Record for largest bowl of Black Beans and Rice at Super Bowl XXIX.
- In 2010, they earned another Guinness World Record for creating and serving 2,000 pounds of salsa during a pre-game Super Bowl part in Miami.
A few weeks after Pollo Tropical opened, I went back with my family. The food was just as delicious the second time around but getting a table was complicated and weird. When we walked in the door, a hostess gave us a number. Then we walked to the counter to place our order. We got our cups after we paid and then found a seat. After our food was prepared, an employee delivered our food to our table.
If I were going to change anything about this restaurant, it would be the hostess situation. Even then, I’d recommend everyone try Pollo Tropical!
