If you read often, you know that we are eliminating soy from our diets because Colin’s allergist told us he is no longer allowed to have it. And, even though I cleaned out the pantry and took out (almost) everything that contained soy, I left the peanut butter. James loves it and I just couldn’t chunk it without a replacement. There are currently two different brands of peanut butter in my pantry – from before the “no soy” rule – and they both have some form of soy in the ingredients list.
When I started my hunt for peanut butter without soy, and my sister suggested PB2. I’d never heard of it, but I thought, “What the heck!” Pretty soon I had a box sitting at my doorstep – 2 jars of PB2, 2 jars of Chocolate PB2 and a package of PB Thins.
What I Liked:
- I like that you can mix up just what you need, and you can make it as thick or thin as you want.
- The PB2 only has 3 ingredients (Roasted peanuts, salt and sugar), the Chocolate PB2 only has 4 ingredients (add cocoa powder to the previous list) and the PBthins only have 6 ingredients (Roasted Peanuts, Wheat Flour, Sugar, Salt, Baking Powder, Leavening Agent).
- The PB2 washes off of plates and silverware MUCH easier than other peanut butter.
- In my opinion, PB2 has better flavor than others. And it’s easier to use in recipes!
What I’d Change:
- I’d like to see a LARGE jar of PB2, rather than just the 6.5oz jar. (When you order online, you can order 4 jars at once, but I like the idea behind a large jar to start with.)
About Bell Plantation PB2:
We call it peanut butter’s second generation because it’s unlike any peanut butter you’ve ever experienced. Through a unique process that doesn’t involve the use of any chemicals and doesn’t alter nature’s intended balance found within the peanut, we remove over 85% of the fat from premium quality peanuts. Essentially, the oil is squeezed out of roasted peanuts and what remains is our famous powdered peanut butter – all natural with no artificial sweeteners or preservatives. When you mix water or a favorite drink with PB2 you get the same consistency as full-fat peanut butter, with all the roasted peanut flavor, but 85% less fat calories.
How does it work?
Mix 2 Tablespoons of PB2 with 1 Tablespoon of water and stir until smooth.
You can purchase your PB2 products at their store.

I would use the PB2 in the boring but delicious manner… on crackers, and I’d love it. But I would also try it in an Asian noodle recipe to cut the calories that regular peanut butter adds.
