Living in South Texas means I don’t do much any driving in severe conditions. My family and I have taken road trips that involve driving through snow (and occasionally ice) but I leave that driving to my husband because it scares me! But did you know that, if you live in a severe-weather area, you should follow a maintenance schedule for driving in severe conditions?
Approximately 62% of Americans drive in severe conditions but only 6% know they drive in those conditions. Severe conditions are described as:
Follow a severe maintenance schedule if you drive your vehicle mainly under one or more of the following conditions: Driving less than 5 miles per trip or, in freezing temperatures, driving less than 10 miles per trip. Driving in extremely hot (over 90° F) conditions. Extensive idling or long periods of stop-and-go driving. Trailer towing, driving with a roof rack carrier, or driving in mountainous conditions. Driving on muddy, dusty, or de-iced roads.
The maintenance schedule for driving in severe conditions varies from vehicle to vehicle and manufacturer to manufacturer. Check with your owner’s manual to determine when you need to have your severe conditions maintenance needs met.
A maintenance schedule for severe conditions could be anything from when you have your oil changed to when you replace your spark plugs. Other maintenance includes: checking your coolant, inspecting the water pump, replacing the timing belt, replacing fluids, inspecting/replacing brakes and rotating tires.
It’s important to ask your dealership when you should have each of those things done. Bossier Chrysler Dodge Jeep has your severe maintenance schedule covered!
