**Full Disclosure: I received free LeapFrog products in order to host the LeapFrog sponsored MommyParty. The opinions expressed here are my own.
We are big fans of LeapFrog products! My boys probably have at least 10 toys (not including books/cartridges) laying around the house. So, when I was offered the chance to host a LeapReader party, I jumped at it!
When my box arrived, my kids asked and asked to look in it. Of course I told them no! I wanted its contents to be a surprise. Something fun for the upcoming weekend.
A few days later, it was time for the party. I’d invited some friends over but only 2 kids (1 adult) were able to make it. All the kiddos wanted to play for a bit before we sat down to try the LeapReader. After about 45 minutes, I asked if who was ready to try the device, but no one answered! So I coaxed all four kids to the table with some pizza. Then I pulled out the LeapReader and all of the accessories.
The kids started by taking turns with the Mr. Pencil Writing Workbook. When they traced the colored letter, they were excited by the encouragement provided from the LeapReader. But then they were ready to move to the dotted letter, and the device was saying they were doing it incorrectly. They were not and got discouraged. I would like to see the LeapReader keep up with the child – so that they could work at their own pace.
Then the kids decided they wanted to read along with the LeapFrog Disney-Pixar Monsters University 3D book. They did not experience any difficulties with the LeapReader while listening along with the device.
The kids only used the LeapReader for about 30 minutes before they were ready to call it quits, but I think that had more to do with the fact that they wanted to play with one another rather than with an educational toy.
While watching the kids interact with the LeapReader, I noticed that the device seems to be too fat for little hands. I feel like it might teach them to hold an actual writing utensil incorrectly.
We’re looking forward to our party! My kids love Leap products too.
I think my daughter would enjoy this. She is not really a reluctant reader because she WANTS to read but it is not coming easy for her. I do read to her but she wants to do it herself. I think this might help.
My kids could not wait for me to open our LeapReader box! My intention was to wait until the party, but they wouldn’t have that! They use them every night right before bed. We plan to purchase MANY of the books. My youngest–1st grade–is a very advanced reader (no, I didn’t work with him at all) but he gets stuck on words so this really helps.
we have a similar system and love it
We got a similar system for my son a while back when we were going on a long trip. He was only 3, so not reading yet – but he was so happy to have his books and to be able to “read” them himself while we were on the road.
I’m a big fan of LeapFrog. 🙂
This looks like a great Christmas present for my 4 year old!
We have something similar for the kids from Leapfrog. We are big fans too!
My girls enjoy their Leap products, then take a break, find them, and love them all over again!
My son is starting to get more into Leapfrog so I know how awesome their products were. I’m sure that the people who made it had a great time.
Looks like you guys had fun!
We’re a huge fan of LeapFrog products can’t wait to see pictures from the party.
We will be having our party soon, I think the kids will love it!
We are huge fans of the LeapFrog toys here. I have seen these readers but haven’t checked them out yet. Enjoy your party!
Leap Frog helped my oldest read so I’m glad they are still around to help my 3 year old read as well.
We have a ton of Leap Frog products in our house and every single one has been a hit and helped them learn.
LeapFrog makes great toys for kids. The LeapReader looks like it would be lots of fun as well as educational.
My 6 year old daughter is starting to learn how to read. I know she’d FLIP if I got her this 🙂
We love LeapFrog products! Haven’t tried the LeapReader but it now gives me a great idea for Christmas for our nephew!
I’m having my party tomorrow and so far only have one yes with two kids. Everyone is so busy right now! I can’t wait to give these a try, though!
I love leapfrog, but I haven’t looked at their new LeapReader line yet. I am very greatful of your review.
