After reviewing Jonah – A Veggie Tales Movie, I had the opportunity to pick another video from Mommy Bear Media‘s family friendly movies. Picking a movie this go round wasn’t any easier. I browsed the sight, I asked the kids what they wanted (the things they threw out weren’t available), and I browsed some more.
I know it’s not really a family movie, but I finally decided on Jillian Michaels: For Beginners. I have heard great things about her workout videos, so I thought this would be a great place to start. After the first few times I worked out to it, my kids started doing the exercises with me!!
My Thoughts:
- I love that a good workout DVD doesn’t cost an arm & a leg (under $11).
- Jillian Michaels is AWESOME in this workout video. She is very supportive, offering compliments, encouragement and motivation during each exercise.
- Also the video moves at a slow pace so you can actually keep up!
- While this video is aimed at beginners, Jillian Michaels tells more advanced exercisers how to change things up and get more out of each routine.
- You don’t need a bunch of equipment. For the front, you’ll need hand weights (I have 2 lb weights), a chair and the floor! For the back, you’ll need a step, hand weights, and a resistance band.
- Occasionally, I noticed that Jillian isn’t looking at YOU (she is looking off camera), but she tries to keep eye-contact throughout which I really like. It makes me feel like she really wants to kick my rear! 😉
- Frequent breaks are suggested if you can’t keep up, but Jillian encourages you to push through if you can. “You only get out what you put in,” she says!
- The hardest thing for me is breathing! Jillian tells you to exhale when my body wants to inhale.
- It’ll take you about 45 minutes for each and there are 6 circuits on each side.
- I can definitely feel a difference even though I am not seeing a difference … YET!
About Jillian Michaels: For Beginners:

Nice review, Sara. I’m doing the new Jillian Michaels Body Revolution with my wife. It’s like the P90x but only 30 minutes a day. And yeah, it is 100% kicking my ass!

Thanks for the great post! I have tried several of Jillian Michaels workout DVD’s and am still surprised on how good of a workout I can get in 30-45 minutes. My favorite one that I have tried is No More Trouble Zones.
