I have a niece I don’t share much about. Not because I don’t want to, but because there is a struggle that’s out of my hands. But I love to send her books, clothes and shoes that make her feel good about being her. JANINE. fits my criteria perfectly.
About JANINE.
Janine is a sweet and personal story written by Maryann Cocca-Leffler and inspired by her daughter’s life as a child with disabilities. Janine is a fun-loving girl with a contagious upbeat attitude. Janine is one of a kind. She talks to her imaginary friends, reads the dictionary for fun, uses lots of big words and remembers unusual facts. Some kids think she is strange and don’t want her to come to their ‘cool’ party unless she changes. Janine stands up for her spectacular self and ends up changing the attitudes of her classmates.
Cocca-Leffler wants to encourage kids to celebrate their differences and stand up for themselves as well as inspire all children to stand up for those who are left out or bullied.
JANINE. is written for girls ages 4-7.
The illustrations are colorful, incredibly cute and perfect for kids. The story is short, adorable and shows kids exactly how they can be themselves and still be cool.
I think JANINE. would be a great addition to any personal or school library. It’s a book every kiddo should read at least once.

Oh I love the idea of this book! My littlest is just getting to the stage where he understands what picking on other people is. I’m going to have to pick it up to read with him.
