We don’t really NEED scarves in South Texas but I like them so several years ago I bought a beautiful green ‘scarf necklace’. It met my desire for a scarf without being too hot for our weather. Each time I wear it, I think about how great it would be as just a necklace. Finally I decided to try my hand at making it happen. The end result was a Beaded T-Shirt Necklace which I absolutely adore!

How to Make a Beaded T-Shirt Necklace:
Supplies –
- T-Shirt (a grungy old one or a cheap new one)
- Rotary Cutter
- Self-Healing Cutting Mat
- Yarn Needle
- Wooden Beads
Directions –
- Wash and dry the shirt.
- Lay shirt flat on the cutting mat
- Cut 4 or 5 strips of 1 inch tall fabric from the center of the shirt.
- Hold all the pieces together and pull gently on the middle causing the edges to roll in on each other.
- Using a yarn needle, thread the beads on the fabric strands in any manner you’d like.
- Tie the fabric together at the back to form the necklace at any length you’d like.
**Note: Purchase t-shirt yarn and completely skip steps 1 – 4.
T-shirts come in a variety of colors so you could make a beaded t-shirt necklace in every color or mix & match to have a rainbow colored necklace. I’d love to see your creations, so please post them in the comments!
