My family and I have been participating in a 30-day PURELL® Advanced Hand Sanitizer Challenge and just completed it. We also happen to be a couple weeks into the school year. Typically it’s the time of year I’d be starting to dread the idea of having to stay home with a sick kid – but not this year! Right now I am feeling good about my family’s health. No one has been down and out (nor has there been any inkling of illness!) and I really think it’s because of the hand hygiene routine we started about a month ago by using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, like PURELL® Advanced Hand Sanitizer, to help reduce the spread of illness-causing germs.
Our routine consists of the 4 ways to fight germs I shared several weeks ago. Implementing the new regimen to include those four things was a little more difficult than I anticipated but after about a week it was smooth sailing.
Though our 30-day challenge is officially over, we are going to continue with it because the winter germ season is coming! Purposefully using PURELL® before we head out for the day, before any meal or snack, before getting on/off the bus and before bed will aid in keeping my family well.
During the first week of the challenge, I bribed my kids with a penny for each time they used PURELL® (up to three cents a day). While I can’t make any promises, this tactic worked well in my home. If you have a family member that doesn’t want to use hand sanitizer, it’s one way to motivate them!
