This week we celebrated my dad’s 59th birthday! But when I started to think about what to gift him, I couldn’t think of a single thing. See, he buys what he wants, when he wants it. So I started thinking about some of his favorite things. One of those things is Chocolate Covered Cherries at Christmas time. I buy him at least one box during the holiday season so I thought it would be so much fun to make those little treats.
I tried to enlist the kids to help me but their initial answer was no. When I told James & Colin they could tell Geezer (yes, that’s what they really call him) that they made his present, they are all in!
How to Make Chocolate Covered Cherries:
Supplies:
- Chocolate bark
- Cherries with stems (we used Marachino)
- Wax paper
- Paper towels
- Spatula
- Microwave-safe bowl
Directions:
- Break the chocolate bark into squares and put 1/4 to 1/2 of the chocolate in the microwave-safe bowl.
- Place the cherries on a paper towel so they are mostly dry.
- Heat the chocolate in 30 second increments until it’s melted.
- Spread the wax paper out.
- Dip a cherry into the melted chocolate and then set it on the wax paper. Repeat until all the cherries are dipped.
- Serve and enjoy!
The chocolate covered cherries were fantastic and my dad really loved them! My kids loved them, too, so I am sure we’ll be making them often!

I’d make them for myself. Well, okay….I would make them for my sister and a few extra for myself. I have memories of my sister coming home from a trip to Africa and we had some chocolate covered cherries that were filled with kirsch. I thought I was so cool eating them.
