I took three years of honors Spanish in high school but I don’t remember much of it. (Sad, I know!) I want my boys to learn – and remember – at least one foreign language. I’ve heard it’s easier for kids to learn other languages, so I was excited to review Gus on the Go.
Gus on the Go is a foreign language learning app developed by two loving parents from toojuice, LLC, Yono and Alice. They have dedicated themselves to helping children embrace their native (and other) languages through fun and educational apps.
About:

Gus on the Go is a great way to learn a new language or supplement your child’s language curriculum. Currently available in the App Store in Spanish, Mandarin, German, Russian, Hebrew, Korean, Cantonese and English with many more languages to come.
So far, only I have played with the Gus on the Go app, but I think it’s pretty great! Here are some of my thoughts:
- Level 1: In the quiz, there are animals that were not taught in the touch & learn section. It’s not a bad thing for adults, but I think it’s confusing for kids. **Note: I went back to revisit this level, you’ll need to click on the barn doors to see/hear the other animals.
- I love the bubble game! It’s a fun way to match the word with the picture.
- Helpful Hint: If you can’t hear the clue, touch the ear to hear it repeated.
- I think the transportation level is fun! The way each vehicle moves ’round and ’round the Earth is really cute!
- The review levels are perfect. They definitely get you thinking about the selection you are about to make – and if it’s correct.
- I also really like that the levels build on one another.
- I like that nothing is timed. It doesn’t make me feel stressed or nervous about making the correct selection in the “right” amount of time.
- I can’t figure out the unlocking method. Sometimes you complete a level and the app unlocks 2 new levels, other times it unlocks 3.
- I wish there were a pause button in the review games. I also wish you could go straight from the “level complete” screen to the next level.
I would definitely recommend Gus on the Go to any family!

Oooh! I’m going to enter now. I’d love to win this. I’m always looking for effective and fun language apps for my dual language kiddos. $2.99 seems steep but, then again, your review makes it sound like it’s worth it. Thanks, Sara!

The price recently dropped from $4.99 to $2.99. You are right, I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $1 on an app. However, if my kids can learn from it, it’s worth it to me!

I love educational apps. Zoe is real interested in Spanish so I bet she’d enjoy this app.
