The long winter filled with cold temperatures and lots of snow is finally coming to an end. While springtime means packing your winter clothes away and spring cleaning your home, you don’t want to neglect spring maintenance on your car either.
Fluid/filter inspection – Winter can take one heck of a toll on your vehicle. You want to check the levels of the engine oil, transmission, coolant, power steering, brakes and windshield washer fluids. Also, be sure that the fuel and air filters are not dirty, and if they are, be sure to replace them.
Battery inspection – During the winter months, it takes a bit longer than normal for our cars to start. This can wreak havoc on our vehicle’s starter and alternator, which in turn wreaks havoc on the car’s battery. Be sure that the battery connections are tight and that the terminals are not heavily corroded.
Tire inspection – If you put snow tires on your car for the winter months, now is the time to change them back to summer or all-season tires. If you drove around with all-season tires during the winter months, give them a visual inspection to ensure there are no signs of damages on them. Also, check the tire pressure to make sure it has the proper pressure for your vehicle.
Exterior washing – It is almost impossible to keep the exterior of your car clean in the wintertime, between the snow, ice, salt, dirt, sand and mud. So, when spring rolls around, it is time to give your car a good washing, ensuring you pay special attention to the car’s undercarriage.
Interior cleaning – You certainly can’t wash the exterior of your vehicle, but neglect the interior. First, store away the winter essentials, like shovels and ice scrapers. Next, vacuum the carpets and upholstery and give the floor mats a good cleaning.
