My husband and I are lucky in that my parents live in the same city we do. But they live 30 minutes away and it’s not all too convenient when we are looking for a last-minute or week-night babysitter. But if you’ve ever used a babysitter, you know they aren’t cheap! In an effort to save money, we have to get really creative when planning date night. One of our my favorite date nights: dinner & early bedtimes for our boys and pizza & a Marvel movie (Captain America is always my first choice!) for the hubs and I.
I wanted to change things up for our at-home date, so I picked up Iron Man 3 and a couple of bags of M&M’s® minis from Walmart. We are big fans of MARVEL and M&M’s so why not combine them?!
Are you wondering what I did with the M&M’s? I made a Captain America Cake!
I really like the way it turned out!! I used a box cake mix, heavy whipping cream, unsweetened applesauce and eggs to make the cake. Once it cooled, I frosted it with white icing. Using circle and star cookie cutters as my guide, I added sprinkles to make the center of the shield. To finish it off, I added M&M’s minis. The cake was incredibly moist and it made a delicious dessert for our MARVEL date night!
Our entertainment center houses a few MARVEL movies and my husband would love to own them all. We don’t usually purchase movies as soon as they are released, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes out on September 9 and I’m not waiting to buy that one!
HeroesEatMMs.com will be launching soon and you’ll find special coupons, games and a contest with a chance to win one of 10 $100 Walmart gift cards!
Which MARVEL superhero would you want to be?

The cake looks good. The real question is how many M&Ms did you snag while trying to finish off the cake. If it were me I would have been forced to run to the grocery store to pick up more candy.
