About the Clorox Ick-tionary:
One icky catastrophe can easily turn into a hilarious party story or top-ick of parent-to-parent chatter. The Clorox® Ick-tionary captures the icky every day and over-the-top situations that everyone can relate to; from circumstances surrounding the unpleasantness of life’s #1’s and #2’s (and sometimes #3’s) to things like applesauce on the ceiling (how?). This online, interactive forum at www.icktionary.com officially brings together the new language of mess, including how to conquer and laugh about them, all brought to you by ick survivors and parents who have been there and cleaned that.
When I was challenged to submit my own word for the icktionary, I REALLY had to think about it. Before I had kids, I made up all kinds of words but they never described messes. They were fun things like “bizzique” – a combination of bizarre and unique. After having kids, I started using all kinds of strange words to describe the nasty (and sometimes crazy) messes my kids would make.
There are so many strange and made up words that come out of my mouth. I had no idea what my best (can I call it that?!) word was or how to describe any of the words that I use for messes. But, I finally decided on:
GUNKY. It is the made-up word most often used around my house. It basically describes anything messy or needing to be cleaned. (EX: My shoes are gunky.)
I chose gunky because it’s a word that has been adopted by my (so far) childless sister and it’s the word my kids use most often to describe the messes they’ve made. I’d say when someone else uses a word you’ve created, the word has been “made” … right?!
Check out the Clorox Ick-tionary to see what awesomely descriptive words others have come up with! You can even submit words you use to describe icky situations in your home!
While you are at Icktionary.com, you can can play games and win coupons! (While supplies last.)
I love that Clorox has created the Ick-tionary! I am going to start incorporating some of the words I’ve found (Sasplotch, for example!) in my everyday life! I think my kids and husband might think I am crazy – but it’s gonna be FUN!
