When I was a kid, my sister and I would get ready for bed and then Mom would come read us a few books. Our favorite was ‘The Spooky Old Tree’! After James was born, I continued the tradition. When he was small he LOVED to be read to. Now he likes to read on his own. When Colin was born, sadly, I didn’t do nearly as much reading. I have gotten better, but we usually read during the day as opposed to bedtime. For bedtime, Colin “reads” his Ninjago books while James reads whatever chapter book he is into that day.
Bookboard is an iPad app that brings a HUGE library of books right to your fingertips! It allows you to set up a profile for each child. The app will keep track of how many books your child is reading and then unlocks more books as they go! It allows you to share your kids’ accomplishments (after they’ve unlocked a book) via Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.

About Bookboard:
Bookboard is a children’s book service that encourages and supports a new generation of readers with a different approach to reading on digital devices. Rather than providing a digital marketplace where families buy and download books, Bookboard offers an affordable subscription service that allows instant exploration of a vast, curated library.
Bookboard aims to inspire young readers by helping them discover new titles and earn fun achievements. As they read, families discover, unlock, and collect great stories to foster a sense of accomplishment that keeps kids coming back for more. At the same time, parents can track reading progress, and use our fun metrics to motivate kids to read even more.
It’s my experience that kids LOVE to play with technology – especially if it belongs to Mom & Dad! When you download Bookboard and allow your kids to read on your iPad, I think it helps to create a love of books and reading. I think holding a iPad with book in their hands provides an experience that kids will continue to crave.

That is cool that it unlocks more books as they go along. Honestly, my mom didn’t read too much to us at bedtime. She did during the day, I remember that! But my boys have a HUGE love of reading. My oldest loves LEGO and Scooby Doo mystery books. My youngest is still into children’s books that we read to him. Although he loves Penguin Says Please. He reads that himself. (He has it memorized.)
