In Texas, texting while driving isn’t completely prohibited. But let’s face it, if you text and drive, you are ASKING for something horrible to happen. You may do that horrible thing to yourself or to someone else, but either way it won’t be good.
Just last week, I was driving and passed a car that had a HUGE dent at the back of the passenger side. On top of the dent were spray painted words, “SHE HIT ME WHILE TEXTING & DRIVING.” At the time, I thought it was funny (and really should have taken a picture of it) but it’s not funny.
Most of the time, my phone is on silent (even at home). But what happens if my phone isn’t on silent and I am out driving around? If James is with me and my phone goes off, I typically hand it to him so he can tell me what it says. If the message needs a reply, I tell him what to type and he does it for me. If it’s just Colin and I, the phone is ignored until I am parked. I think it would be a great idea to turn my phone OFF and put it in the trunk (or somewhere I can’t even TRY to reach it), but I never do that. Why? Because it’s in my purse, and my purse goes on the seat next to me. Dumb reason, but there it is.
Safely Go is a free app in the Google Play store. The app limits distractions by sending auto-reply messages while you are driving so that you are 100% focused on the road.
Make driving your #1 priority when you’re on the road.
Stay focused on what’s important.
Do you, like most people, find it hard to stay focused on the road while your cell phone tempts you? But is turning it off the best way to curb texting-while-driving? Let Safely Go receive your calls and texts, keeping you connected and responsible, making you and the road a safer place for everyone.
SAFELY GO IS YOUR ONE-CLICK TICKET TO DISTRACTION-FREE DRIVING:
☆ Allows only calls and texts only from your 3 “VIP Contacts” (like your family or boss)
☆ Tells everyone else you’re on the road and driving safely, through automatic text replies
☆ Enables calls through your Bluetooth or other hands-free device
☆ Gives you access only to your top 3 “Driving Apps” (like maps, navigation, or music)
SAFELY GO CAN ALSO KEEP YOU FOCUSED ON MORE THAN JUST THE ROAD:
– Lock your phone to minimize distractions during meetings, class, and family time
– Practice “digital wellness” by being in control of your phone, not “compelled” by it
– Work and play better, by concentrating on being where you are, while effortlessly letting contacts know you’ll get back to them soon
My Thoughts:
- I REALLY love this app!!
- I wish it would take you longer to close it out. ONLY because, if you are one to check your phone at a light, you could close it and check your phone before the light changed. But, you probably wouldn’t have time to turn it back on.
- I like that it allows you to have (up to) 3 emergency contacts, however, if they call you while you are driving, your phone will still ring and you can still answer. I feel like you should only be able to call out to your emergency contacts.
- When I first downloaded the app, I didn’t automatically know to click the big, green button to get it started. (So, if you are new and don’t know what to do, tap that green button with the car on it to get started!!)
What do you do with your phone while you are driving? Do you answer it? Do you respond to texts?

i’ve become a very anxious pasenger and driver because of the people I see around me. eating, READING, texting, curling their hair (yes that happened). I wish more people would do incorporate things like this.

YES! I wonder how one would curl their hair in the car?! 😉
My husband was driving the other day and this girl (probably 17) had NO HANDS on the wheel and she was looking at her phone. She drifted into our lane. I STARED her down. She quickly put both hands on the wheel. Things like that are just too common these days and it’s SCARY!

I actually don’t text because I don’t like having my communication divided between text messages and emails. In any case, it makes me so mad when I see people texting while driving while I’m on the road with precious cargo (3 children) in the car! 🙂

I admit, I text while driving, check email, talk on the phone, I’m horrible I know, and i know I shouldn’t do it, but I do… To me, it’s no more of a distraction as turning around to yell at my kids, looking for a radio station, or using a GPS.

I don’t text and drive – or read texts while I’m driving – I wish my youngest daughter wouldn’t text and drive!

That app sounds awesome! A few years ago a teen texting while driving ran a red light… crashed into another car killing a middle school girl and her father was seriously injured. HORRIBLE! No family should have to go through that. Be safe while driving!

EXACTLY!
