Last month my mom, sister and I took a trip to California. I’d talked them into taking this girls trip early in the year and we’d spent months meticulously planning all the little details. Finally, it was time to put our plan in motion!
**Full Disclosure: DriveShop provided me with the Mitsubishi Outlander for review purposes. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
Mom and I were flying from San Antonio, Becca was flying from Dallas and we were meeting at baggage claim in the California airport. From there, we picked up the Mitsubshi Outlander and drove to our first stop – Venice Beach! After walking along the Pacific ocean, we had lunch at The Terrace. Oh, was it good!
Then we headed to our hotel for the next couple of days – Paradise Pier at Disneyland. It was here that Becca and I discovered mom had a torn achilles tendon. Immediately, we called around to get scooter rental prices. Watching mom drive the scooter around left Becca and I in fits of giggles – all while mom threatened to run us over! Because we were staying on-property at Disneyland, we found a great parking space and left the Outlander in the covered garage for the next couple days.
Our fun at Disneyland came to an end and we loaded our bags easily into the back of the Mitsubishi. I drove the three of us to our hotel in Los Angeles where we would spend the last two days of our trip. The first day was spent my mom’s cousin, Sonja. We took a tour down memory lane and ate the most amazing meal at Ca’ Del Sole (get the Gnocchi Al Ragu Di Coda Di Manzo!) before saying our goodbyes. We had enough time to visit the La Brea Tar Pits and stop at a See’s Candies before heading to the airport.
I’m not sure why mom, Becca and I waited so long to plan a girls trip but I’m already campaigning to organize our next trip!
Why You Should Take a Girls Trip with Family Members:
- Quality Time – Because my sister lives several hours away, we don’t spend much one-on-one time together. Taking a trip together allows us girls time to catch up on things that are just about us – not our kids, husbands or jobs.
- Laughter – They say laughter is the best medicine and it really is. Because you aren’t worrying about routines, keeping up with kids, chores, etc., you are free to enjoy yourselves!
- Escape from Reality – I don’t know about you, but the monotony of my daily schedule becomes dull very quickly. Stepping out of that pattern and enjoying my mom & sister allows us to create a stronger bond.
I’m still working on getting mom and Becca to agree to another girls trip – but maybe this time with my niece!

Girls trips are the BEST! Leaving the boys behind and getting in unforgettable girls bonding is priceless. You can accommodate all the girly events you want. Girls trips are a MUST do!

Girls time is great! Spending quality time with mother, daughter, cousin, granddaughter. . . Is great, especially without guys around, we can be sillier.

Absolutely agree that girls trips are the best. One of my favorites was to NYC with my grandma, aunt, mom, and sister! Priceless!
