Keeping our children safe on the road is critical. Whether you’re buying your child’s first car seat, deciding whether to let your kids walk to school or take a bus, handing the car keys to your teenager, or wondering how safe your car is, it all matters.
Car Safety Tips:
- Running or not, you should never leave your kid(s) alone in a vehicle.
- Everyone in should buckle up every time you get in the car.
- Make sure your child’s car seat is right for their age & size and use it for every single car trip. Also, make sure the car seat is installed correctly.
- Always keep your keys in a safe place & out of reach of children.
- Teach your children that cars are not toys or playgrounds.
- Always walk around your vehicle to ensure there are no children present.
- Instruct your kid(s) to walk in front of parked cars as it is safer and they are less likely to be accidentally backed over.
- Keep kids in the back seat until at least age 12.
- Eliminate distractions for your safety as well as your children.
- Always be aware of your surroundings!
The six most common dangers around vehicles are: backover, seat belt entanglement, heatstroke, trunk entrapment, power windows and vehicle rollaway.
