You’ve just bought a new car, but you have kids. What now? You know little fingerprints will get everywhere and if you’re like me, you can’t avoid eating in the car. But how do you protect your car from damage on the inside? These four steps will help you protect your car from the floor on up.
Floor Coverings
While I’m not a huge fan of how they look, we just got custom made floor coverings that cover the whole van. They fit perfectly around the seats and center console so that dirty shoes can’t track mud in on your brand new carpets.
Seat Coverings
There are many companies out there that make covers for all makes and models of cars. Seat covers are a great way to ensure that little fingers won’t be dropping ketchup on the seat and ruining it with baby carseats rubbing them raw.
Car Covers
If you can’t fit your car in the garage, you may want to look into getting a car cover. My son was outside playing and he was trying to throw a baseball into the garage to put it away. He missed and hit the side-view mirror of our van, shattering it into a million pieces. He was terrified of getting in trouble because we only had our new van for about 2 or 3 weeks at the time! If you live in the North, the car cover will also help you avoid the weather getting to your vehicle.
Electronics
If your children are small, you may want to be the one to run any electronics. Greasy fingers putting CDs and DVDs into your electronic system can be a nightmare. Even touching the buttons to change the channels with dirty hands will make the numbers rub off of the buttons.
You can also do things such as only allowing easy to clean up foods and drinks in the car. Foods that can be vacuumed easily such as cereal and crackers are good choices, and water to drink so that it won’t stain anything. Kids are going to be hard on your vehicle. Just do your best to keep it clean and you will have a better resale value.
