My family and I enjoy road trips but packing the trunk of our vehicle can be challenging – especially when we are hitting the road for over a week! Over the last few years, my husband and I have learned a few things about packing for a road trip. I wanted to share some of our (trial and error) experience to make things easier for you.
How to Pack the Trunk:
- Gather your gear.
- Pack your belongings in duffle bags (or XXL zippered bags).
- Keep all toiletries their own bag.
- Make sure you have a bag of cleaning supplies.
- Lay a soft-sided laundry bag on the bottom.
- At the back of the trunk, load pillows, blankets, emergency items and an ice chest.
- Put your belongings in the middle of the trunk, keeping the toiletry bag on top.
- At the front the trunk, add in your cleaning supplies.
- Fill in any gaps.
- Pack toys & food in their own bags & put them in the backseat of the car.
Of course, you can pack in so many different ways but this is the system that works for our 4-person family. However you choose to load the items, make sure you pack them tightly as possible in the trunk so as to fit as much as possible.
