Romantic comedies have always been my favorite kind of movie. But because my husband is not romantic (in any sense of the word), I find joy in watching on-screen characters develop their blossoming relationships. Romantic comedies make me feel good for the fictional people I see in them!
With Valentine’s Day approaching, I’ve been watching more than my fair share of romantic comedies on Netflix! There are so many good choices but I’ve carefully whittled my long list to only 10 of my favorites.
10 Romantic Comedies on Netflix:
- The Other Sister
Carla Tate has never been like her sisters. Sent at a young age to a school for children with intellectual impairments, a maturing Carla returns to her family home in San Francisco. Her overbearing mother, Elizabeth, and patient father, Radley, struggle to come to terms with Carla’s growing independence as she embarks on her dream of attending college and pursues a romance with Danny, a young man with a similar disability. - Maid in Manhattan
The story of a single mother, Marisa, born and bred in the boroughs of New York City, who works as a maid in a first-class Manhattan hotel. By a twist of fate and mistaken identity, Marisa meets Christopher Marshall, heir to a political dynasty, who believes that she is a guest at the hotel. Fate steps in and throws the pair together for a magical night of romance. When Marisa’s true identity is revealed, the two find that they are worlds apart. - 50 First Dates
Henry, a big ladies-man, sets his heart on romancing Lucy but she has short-term memory loss; she can’t remember anything that happened the day before. So every morning, Henry has to woo her again. Her friends and family are very protective, and Henry must convince them that he’s in it for love. - Leap Year
When yet another anniversary passes without a marriage proposal, Anna decides to take action. Aware of a Celtic tradition that allows women to pop the question on Feb. 29, she plans to follow her boyfriend to Dublin and ask him to marry her. Fate has other plans, however, and Anna winds up on the other side of the Emerald Isle with handsome, but surly, Declan — an Irishman who may just lead Anna down the road to true love. - The Prince & Me
Paige Morgan is a focused premed student who becomes intrigued by Eddie, a wealthy Danish student. Despite Eddie’s initially boorish behavior, Paige falls for him, only to discover that his father and mother are the king and queen of Denmark, and he is heir apparent to the throne. As Eddie adjusts to American life, and Paige gets used to her beau being a future king, the two must decide if their romance is something that can last. - My Fake Fiance

Despite having a great career and a loving family, lawyer John Clark is missing something in his life as he meanders listlessly from day to day. On his commute back home one night, Clark notices a stunning woman in a dance studio and decides on a whim to join a class for ballroom dancing. While Clark finds a new spark in his life, his wife, Beverly, grows suspicious of his frequent absences, since he decides to keep his dancing a secret. - Hart of Dixie
New York doctor Zoe Hart has reached a crossroads in her life when she decides to accept an offer from a stranger to work with him at his practice in Alabama. When she arrives in town, she discovers that the man has died and left her his half of the practice in his will, something that doesn’t exactly make her new partner happy. Despite the shock of Southern life and some less-than-hospitable town folk, Zoe decides to give her new life a chance and discovers a new side of herself in the process. - Chasing Life
Things are looking good for aspiring journalist April. Not only has the 20-something received an opportunity to impress her editor at the Boston newspaper where she works, but she also has a budding romance with attractive co-worker Dominic. Unfortunately that’s when a big challenge starts. She learns from her oncologist uncle that she has cancer. Thus begins April’s journey to beat the disease while following her dreams for both her personal and professional lives.
There is a great selection of romantic comedies on Netflix so don’t let the 3-star ratings deter you from watching them!
