Minecraft Cake

Author Sara Phillips

Ingredients

  • 2 boxes brownie mix + everything you need to make both boxes plus 1 extra egg per box!
  • 2 tubs frosting - one chocolate one vanilla
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Also, foil zippered baggies and a frosting knife.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°
  2. Adding 1 extra egg per package, prepare the brownie mix as directed.
  3. Line two square baking dishes with foil (leaving 2 inches over the edge on two sides) and thinly coat with cooking spray.
  4. Put half of the batter in each baking dish.
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cool for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Using the foil 'handles' pull the cake out of the dish.
  8. Remove from foil and place in freezer. (I wrapped mine in saran wrap before putting them in the freezer, but I don't know how necessary that is.)
  9. Trim the edges so you have clean squares (make sure they are the same size!).
  10. Putting a thick layer of frosting between the two brownie squares, stack them together.
  11. Coat the bottom 2/3 of the cake with the chocolate frosting (dirt).
  12. Mix the green gel coloring into the vanilla frosting.
  13. Coat the top 1/3 of the cake with the green frosting (grass).
  14. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

If you are frosting the cake directly on your cake plate, take a large piece of wax paper and tear it into quarters. Cover the cake plate entirely. Put the cake on top then frost. When you're done, gently pull out each piece of the wax paper. You'll probably want to pipe frosting around the edge of the cake, but the cake plate won't be covered with icing.
