Preheat the oven to 350°

Beat butter and sugar until well blended.

Add eggs and vanilla and beat on high speed until combined.

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a separate bowl.

With mixer on low speed, beat about 1/3 of the flour mixture into butter mixture, then about a 1/3 of the buttermilk. Repeat until everything is well blended.

Bake 20 to 25 minutes.

Cool completely before frosting.
