You wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes without trying them on first, would you? Then why would you buy a car without trying it out first? You need to get a feel for a car to decide if it is the vehicle that you want to drive on a daily basis. Here are some tips on how to test drive a car.
Make a list and do some research – Make a list of the car or cars you are interested in test driving. Then, check out some of the vehicle consumer websites to find reviews on the particular make and model. Some of the top sites include www.edmunds.com, www.consumerreports.org and www.jdpower.com.
What to bring with you to the test drive – You will need a copy of your driver’s license and proof of insurance in order to test drive any car.
What to look for before you get in the car – Before you even get seated in the car you are going to test drive, check the color of the car to ensure it looks like it does in the photos you looked at on the dealership’s website. Also, if you have children, ensure there is enough room in the back seat for your current car seat. If you need to haul around lots of items, ensure that the trunk is large enough for you needs.
What to look for as soon as you get in the car – When you get seated in the vehicle, be sure there is enough headroom and legroom. Be sure that you are not sitting too high or too low and that the steering wheel can adjust to your comfort level. How comfortable are the seats and are they adjustable? What about the gas and brake pedals? Are they at a comfortable position for you, and if not, can they be adjusted?
